This page details the specific criteria we use when reviewing travel joggers. Each criterion has a weight that contributes to the overall score. Learn more about how our scoring system works.
Scoring Overview
Each criterion below is weighted as a percentage of the total score. We evaluate each product on a scale of 1 to 5 for every criterion, then multiply by the weight to calculate the final rating.
Comfort against skin (13%)
Joggers must feel good for long stretches. I’m evaluating waistband comfort, checking elastic tension and drawstring feel. I’m testing interior softness, comparing brushed versus smooth finishes. I’m checking cuff comfort, looking at ribbed versus elastic versus clean hem options. I’m also assessing seam placement for mobility. Comfort is one of the biggest selling points for joggers, so this gets weighted accordingly.
Fit, mobility & sizing accuracy (12%)
Whether the piece lines up with the size chart and accommodates different builds. I’m evaluating thigh and seat room, which is crucial for athletic builds. I’m checking cuff opening fit because too tight feels restrictive and too loose looks sloppy. I’m testing rise accuracy, which is a major comfort factor. I’m comparing true-to-size versus vanity sizing. I’m also assessing mobility when sitting, squatting and stretching. Joggers rely on a flattering silhouette plus mobility balance.
Materials, durability & easy care (9%)
Many joggers use polyester blends, so I’m scoring their real-world care performance. I’m evaluating dry time, especially hotel sink wash expectations. I’m testing odor resistance since synthetic joggers vary widely. I’m checking pilling resistance, which is a common failure point. I’m assessing color retention and static cling behavior. We’re generous with care since we typically don’t put things in the dryer, but the care requirements still factor into the score.
Durability & abrasion resistance (9%)
Joggers often fail at specific wear points. I’m evaluating inner thigh abrasion resistance. I’m checking seat wear from planes, buses and chairs. I’m testing stitching durability at pockets. Most jogger failures occur in these areas, so this deserves its own scoring slot separate from materials quality.
Breathability & moisture management (9%)
Joggers can be too warm depending on fabric weight. I’m evaluating heat management during fast walking. I’m testing moisture wicking behind knees. I’m checking clamminess reduction in humidity. This helps separate tiers of performance fabrics from basic blends.
Temperature regulation (8%)
Joggers should function well from 55 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit if designed for travel. I’m evaluating warm and cool balance for flights. I’m testing comfort range from airports to outdoors to restaurants. I’m checking wind protection versus airflow. I’m assessing season versatility. The question is whether these joggers keep you comfortable across temperature shifts.
Stretch, mobility & shape retention (10%)
This is critical for joggers. I’m checking knee bagging resistance. I’m testing seat sagging resistance. I’m evaluating elastic recovery after long flights. I’m assessing cuff elasticity longevity. Poor shape retention is the fastest way joggers look sloppy, so this matters more than it does for structured garments.
Pocket function & travel security (10%)
This is super important for travel joggers. I’m evaluating zippered pockets for phones and passports. I’m testing drop-in phone pocket bounce resistance. I’m checking pocket depth when seated. I’m assessing whether there’s a pocket print showing through the fabric. Joggers equal comfort, but pockets equal practicality. This is a must-score category.
Wrinkle resistance & packability (8%)
I’m comparing fold versus roll behavior. I’m testing compression resistance in packing cubes. I’m checking wrinkle recovery speed. Tech joggers often excel here, so it’s good to score how well this specific pair handles being stuffed into luggage and how quickly creases fall out.
Weight & packability (5%)
Travel joggers vary widely in weight and bulk. I’m comparing heavy fleece versus ultralight synthetics. I’m testing bulk in packing cubes. I’m evaluating multi-outfit flexibility. This is worth scoring separately from wrinkle resistance since weight affects how many pairs you can pack.
Styling versatility (10%)
This is what separates high-end travel joggers from sweatpants. I’m evaluating travel to casual to athleisure integration. I’m testing suitability for airports, cafés and sightseeing. I’m checking footwear compatibility with sneakers and slip-ons. I’m assessing whether the silhouette is clean and minimal, not sloppy or overly athletic. The question is whether these joggers work across different travel scenarios without looking like pajama bottoms.
Overall value for price (7%)
Where does this land on price versus what you’re actually getting? I’m evaluating longevity versus price. I’m comparing fabric quality versus competing travel joggers. I’m testing waistband durability. I’m assessing pilling resistance over time. I’m checking ethical manufacturing considerations. Build quality, performance and warranty all factor into whether it’s worth the cost.
