HalfHalfTravel.com (“us”, “we,” or “our”) operates the https://www.halfhalftravel.com website (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”). The Service is owned and operated by Half Half Travel LLC.

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

We use the information described below to provide and improve the Service, deliver the emails and resources you request, and verify access to subscriber content. Where we request consent, your choices apply to the relevant activity; visiting the website alone does not subscribe you to our emails.

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

When you contact us, request emails or resources, or sign in, we collect the information you provide, such as your email address, your name if supplied, and the contents of your message. We also maintain related subscription and access records, as described below.

Usage Data

We may also collect information on how the Service is accessed and used (“Usage Data”). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Analytics

We use third-party Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service.

We use Google Analytics to understand page visits, referral sources, device and browser information, and interactions with our website. For our email offers and cafe map, these interactions include viewing an offer, requesting an email, encountering a signup error and opening the map. The events can include the offer, selected interest and originating page path. Our custom signup and map events do not send your email address or personal access link to Google Analytics.

Our Analytics integration uses consent settings for analytics storage and advertising features. When storage consent is denied, Google may still receive limited requests without analytics cookies, known as cookieless pings. You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent supported Google Analytics scripts from sharing information about your visits with Google Analytics.

Use of third-party services

The Service uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics: We use this service for the website usage measurements described above.
  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit): We use Kit to store subscriber records, manage email preferences and confirmation, deliver emails and resources, and check subscription or applicable purchase status for access to member content. Our use of Kit is described in the next section. See Kit’s Data Processing Addendum for its processing of creator subscriber data and Kit’s Privacy Policy for its own services and usage data.
  • Instagram: Instagram posts can be embedded on articles on the Service.
  • YouTube: YouTube videos can be embedded on articles on the Service.
  • Mapbox: On some pages on the Service, a JavaScript snippet is available, which allows for specified locations to be displayed on a map.
  • OpenStreetMap: Our NYC cafe map loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap after access is verified. These requests disclose technical information such as your IP address, browser information and the requested map area to that service. We do not send your email address, personal access link or saved favorites with tile requests. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy. Directions links open Google Maps when you choose to use them.
  • Netlify: The Service is hosted on Netlify. Our signup and access-verification requests pass through its server functions. Netlify processes request information, including IP addresses, to host and operate the website and apply security controls such as request limits.
  • Emerald (Travelpayouts): On some travel guide pages, we use Emerald, an AI-powered affiliate monetization service from Travelpayouts. This service automatically places travel-related CTAs, tooltips, and affiliate links within our content. Emerald may track user interactions with these elements to optimize placement and measure conversion performance. Personal information is not collected by this service.

Email Subscriptions, Resources and Kit

When you request an email offer, we send your email address and information about that request to Kit. Depending on the offer, your subscriber record can include:

  • Your email address and name if supplied.
  • The newsletter, resource or lesson you requested, and any brands or gear categories you selected. Kit stores these interests as labels or tags associated with your record.
  • The website page from which you requested an offer.
  • Your subscription and confirmation status, and associated signup records.
  • A personal link for opening the cafe map or a requested lesson. These links contain signed access information associated with your email address and the requested resource.

We use these records to deliver the requested resource, send the updates described on the signup form, organize emails by your selected interests, and verify access. Cafe-map signup requests the map and occasional NYC cafe updates; it does not enroll you in gear-deal alerts. Deal-alert signup records the interests you request without enrolling you in cafe updates. If you already subscribe, requesting another offer can add its interests to your existing Kit record. Lesson signups follow the newsletter and access terms shown on their forms.

New subscriptions require email confirmation. Submitting a form alone does not establish a confirmed subscription. We check your subscription status with Kit when verifying map or member access. For readers with a historical course purchase, we may also check the applicable Kit purchase record to verify course access.

Depending on the tracking settings used for an email, Kit may record delivery, opens through tracking images, and clicks through tracked links, along with associated technical information such as IP address and browser details. We use these reports to understand email delivery and engagement and improve our emails. Email software can block or preload images and links, so these measurements do not reliably prove that an individual read a message. Kit explains its email open tracking here.

You can unsubscribe using the link in our emails. This stops subscription emails from our Kit list, including other interests associated with that subscription, rather than removing only one brand or category. To change a particular interest, reply to an email or contact us. Unsubscribing also removes subscription-based access when we next verify it; it does not cancel a separately valid historical course purchase.

Unsubscribing does not automatically delete your subscriber record or email history in Kit. Those records can remain in Kit, including your unsubscribed status, so we can honor your opt-out and handle access or support requests. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your subscriber information, contact us. We may need to verify that the request comes from the owner of the email address. Any applicable legal retention requirements or records needed to preserve an opt-out may limit what can be deleted.

Access Cookies and Browser Storage

We use first-party cookies to remember pending cafe signup and verified access. They support the resource you requested and are separate from advertising cookies:

  • A pending cafe-access cookie lasts up to 7 days so the browser you used to sign up can return from email confirmation. It grants access only after we verify an active subscription with Kit.
  • A verified cafe-map session cookie lasts up to 30 days, subject to the access link’s expiry. Map access is checked with Kit again when the map data is requested.
  • Member and course session cookies last up to 1 day. We also keep a browser cache of membership information, including your email address and subscription or course-access details, to display the member interface. Cached access information is treated as valid for up to 5 minutes, although it can remain in browser storage until replaced, sign-out clears it, or you clear site storage.

The access cookies contain signed information associated with your email address and access purpose. They are sent to our server to verify access and are not readable by website JavaScript. Personal map links expire after one year; lesson-confirmation links expire after seven days. Signing out of the map clears its pending and session cookies; member sign-out clears member and course session cookies. Signing out does not unsubscribe you or delete your Kit record.

Cafe favorites are saved in local storage on the browser and device where you choose them. They are not added to your Kit record or synchronized between devices. If browser storage is unavailable, favorites can last only for that page visit. You can remove individual favorites in the map or clear this site’s storage in your browser settings. Clearing storage or blocking access cookies may require you to reopen your personal link or sign in again.

The cafe map does not request your device’s precise location. Clicking a directions link takes you to Google Maps, where its own privacy practices apply.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on the Service may include embedded content, like Instagram media, YouTube videos or similar content. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites or services may collect data about you, may use cookies, may embed additional third-party tracking, and may monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

The information that may be collected from you is not shared with us.

Affiliate Programs

The Service contains affiliate links. We may earn a small commission when you purchase via those links — this does not affect the price paid by the user for any given product and there is no charge to the user for purchasing through affiliate links on the Service.

Among other programs, the Service is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

Advertising

We use third-party Service Providers to show advertisements to you to help support and maintain our Service.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting.
