I’ve traveled throughout Spain multiple times, and the country’s diverse regions and climates require specific packing considerations. Spain’s mix of beach vacations, city breaks and hiking adventures means you’ll need gear that adapts to different types of itineraries.
This packing list comes from those trips. I’ve tested these items in Spain’s conditions: Mediterranean heat, coastal winds and the mix of urban and outdoor activities. Use the trip length selector above to adjust quantities based on how long you’re staying.

Essentials
These are the non-negotiable items you’ll need regardless of trip length. Think of this as your foundation. Everything else builds on having these basics covered.
Passport
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your stay to keep things smooth at immigration when you land in Madrid or Barcelona. You definitely won’t get very far in Spain without it!
Credit cards and cash
While many places in major Spanish cities take card, you’ll definitely want some Euros for smaller tapas bars or local markets. It’s much easier to have cash ready for those quick coffee stops and small purchases.
Travel insurance
Between navigating busy city streets and the potential for travel delays, having travel insurance gives you that extra layer of security while you’re exploring the diverse regions of Spain.
Your phone and charger
Your phone is easily your most important travel tool for capturing the incredible architecture and staying connected with your travel plans. Just remember to pack a reliable charger for those long days of exploring.
The combination of scenic photos and using your phone for navigation will drain your battery faster than you think, especially in areas with spotty service. Keep a power bank handy so you’re never caught with a dead phone mid-tour.
Staying hydrated is absolute key during those warm Spanish days. Bringing your own bottle is a great way to save money and ensure you have enough water while you’re out exploring the cities or beaches.
