Estonia was one of our most memorable and surprising trips, and I say that because we really enjoyed every moment. It is a special place, and if you’re packing for Estonia, I have a few things to share with you in this packing list that should help.
Estonia is never terribly hot, so summer, spring and early fall are lovely times to visit, with moderate temperatures and a few layers needed to stay warm during breezy visits to the coastline and chilly nights in the Old Town.
With this packing list, you can grab everything you need to have an awesome trip in Estonia, and remember to use the packing list selector tool below to choose how long you’ll be staying.

Packing essentials
Here’s a list of the basics I always pack when I go to Estonia and the surrounding region. Luckily, Estonia and its neighbors use the Euro, so that’s one thing you can have covered quickly. The rest of the crucial packing items here will be right in your bag during your trip.
Packing organization
Make sure to stay organized! It’s one of the easiest ways to bring back your sanity when you open your bags after getting to Tallinn. You’ll want your laundry separated from your clean clothes and a good look at your layers so that you can stay warm when needed with the breeze and cool temperatures.
Clothing for cool temperatures
Estonia has distinct seasons, so pack accordingly. Spring and fall are mild, summers can be warm, and winters are cold. Layers work well for the variable weather, especially near the Baltic coast. During our summer trip to Estonia, we woundup wearing fall jackets as soon as the sun started getting lower, and mostly wore pants every single day.
Shoes and footwear
As we mostly were on our feet during our entire trip in Estonia, we learned that good walking shoes are an essential, especially for climbing those steps on the stone walls of the Old Town! There’s also so many staircases that will get you good views. Make sure you break in your shoes before you go!
Then, for hiking in the forests outside Tallinn, a good pair of trail shoes or hiking boots should do the trick. We mostly did light hiking in the region, with nothing too intense. Socks can make all the difference in keeping feet warm and sweat-free, too.
Sightseeing essentials
Sightseeing was mostly what we did in Tallinn, and when we left the “big city” to see some interesting things in the countryside like churches, medieval villages and scenery. For sightseeing, make sure you are comfortable, so take the accessories below, so that you can be out for a great day and not have to head back to your accommodation to grab something you forgot!
Hiking gear
Hiking in the bogs and forests outside Tallinn is an essential part of any Estonia trip. The packing essentials below will get you through some lovely hiking experiences in Estonia, so pack each of these.
Family-friendly accesssories (for babies and kids)
Because of its safety and straightforwardness in terms of a travel destination, Estonia is a fantastic country to visit as a family. Kids of all ages will have something to do. Use the packing items below if you plan to visit Estonia with a baby, toddler or kids of any age!
