I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect cozy travel pants for years. You know the struggle, everything is either too bulky to pack, too tight for lounging or just not soft enough for those long flights and lazy days.
That changed recently when I got my hands on the Free Fly Women’s Bamboo Lightweight Fleece Wide Leg Pants.
This is my first impressions review after wearing these cozy wide leg pants around the house and testing their comfort. How soft are they really? Do they work for travel? Let’s see.
The fit that finally works (sort of)
Here’s the thing about being 5’2” and shopping for wide leg pants, everything is either way too long or designed for someone much taller. That’s just me though. If you’re taller, read on!
My first impression when holding them up against my body was, “Whoa, these run long.” And I’ve experienced that before in Free Fly. Typically, any of the bottoms that are not leggings or canvas pants run long on me.

The sizing in the waist is fine. It’s true to size for XS that I got. The waist is already snug on me, and the drawstring waist can make it even tighter if you want to. The mid-rise design with the adjustable elastic waistband gives you a fitted waist that’s comfortable without being too restrictive.
The softness factor
Wow, they are SO SOFT! The softness is unmatched, and I find it to be the same fabric as the Free Fly Fleece Hoodie. Both are smooth and cozy for fall, winter and early spring. Or really, any time of the year.
The brushed fleece interior feels like a fluffy, cashmere blanket. It’s a perfect level of softness that makes you want to curl up in them. They are also breathable enough that you won’t overheat in stuffy situations. The 4-way stretch gives you freedom of movement, so you can actually do things in these pants without feeling restricted.

Perfect for travel and lounging
What makes these pants special for travel is how thin and lightweight they are. The micro-fleece material is super cozy and soft, but it’s not thick or suffocating like other lounge pants I own. Because they’re not made from heavy or bulky material, they pack down small and compress easily into a smaller packing cube.
The materials that make it work
The pants are made up of 67% Viscose (from Bamboo), 29% Polyester and 4% Spandex. This combination creates the softness while maintaining durability and stretch. 4% Spandex goes a long way in making them stretchy, trust me! The fabric weight is 235 GSM. It’s technically somewhere between medium to heavyweight.
They do still feel thin, I’d say it’s more on the medium side. It’s not quite the thickness of sweatpants. Not thin like a tshirt. It’s somewhere in between.
Is it worth it?
The Free Fly Women’s Bamboo Lightweight Fleece Wide Leg Pants are exactly what I’ve been looking for in travel loungewear. They’re incredibly soft, pack small and feel cozy without being thick and uncomfortable. The only downside is the length for shorter women like me, but if you’re average height or taller, these will be perfect.
