Cotopaxi Coso 2L Hip Pack Review: Travel & Hiking Belt Bag

Why we like it

The Cotopaxi Coso 2L Hip Pack has a rugged style that turns heads because of the funky color combinations from one of my favorite travel brands, Cotopaxi.

It is made from 100% recycled materials, and blends in different textures to make a unique type of fanny pack that I’ve never seen anywhere else. And I own a lot of fanny packs!

Some people may call it sporty, but I think it’s more of a travel gear-style oriented bag because of the design. It’s the type of waist bag that is the perfect punch for having in transit on an airport day, or having on my lap during a train or bus trip while I’m traveling abroad.

The Cotopaxi Coso hip pack gives me peace of mind that my essentials are safe and close at hand, and enclosed by high quality zippers. The main opening provides easy access to essentials and the interior hanging phone pocket with fleece lining keeps my phone protected.

The side compression straps with multiple adjustment points allow for customization, and the interior front flap pocket provides easy access to a wallet or train ticket, for example.

The back zippered pocket adds an extra layer of security, which is a plus when we’re in crowded cities or places where theft is a threat (and I hope that wouldn’t happen to you, but in cases like Barcelona where tourists get targeted, anything is possible!).

The multiple grab handles make it easy to carry, and while this seems like a silly thing to comment on for a waist pack, it’s actually very helpful if I plan to clip my Coso 2L onto my travel backpack or duffel.

Considerations

The Coso 2L is not cheap, and yes: you will find cheaper belt bags for travel on the market.

But Cotopaxi prices its goods the way it does because of the recycled materials and sustainability. They also offer a lifetime guarantee and will repair any Cotopaxi product during the years you have it, if there is a manufacturing defect that makes it fall apart.

What I’d keep in mind: the Coso 2L is not a belt bag I’d wear out to dinner, or to a business travel event, or anything of that sort. This one’s for the backpacker, the hiker and the harder-core traveling fanatic: you’d get a Cotopaxi product if you want the distinct look, the great quality promise and the option of funked-out color combos.
