Login to AccessWeekend getaways come in many forms when you have a baby in tote. I most often think of a small road trip as a weekend getaway, but short travels from home between Friday and Sunday could also be quick flights.
With a baby, weekend getaways are actually manageable, and they’re a great way to start traveling with an infant.
Why take a weekend getaway with a baby?
A weekend getaway is like a breath of fresh air, plus something to look forward to! Here are our top reasons to consider a quick weekend trip with a baby.
- The length of time (2-3 days) is manageable, and less overwhelming than a week-long or two-week trip.
- If there’s a change in time zones, it will probably be minimal, and staying on “home time” is not hard.
- While you have to pack for 2 entire days of baby essentials (feeding, sleep, nursing, pumping, activities), clothes and diapers can be minimal.
- Weekend getaways are usually over before you know it, and they can be a happy medium between a single day trip and a longer trip, where you can test the waters in traveling with a baby.
- Also, they’re something great to look forward to, and not a huge investment of time nor money.
What to consider in taking a weekend getaway with a baby
Here are a few things to think about both when booking a weekend trip with a baby, and when you’re getting on the road for one.
- If you fly: keep flights short and distances small; flying to go away for just one weekend with a baby requires normal prepping for a flight with a baby, but in less time.
- If you road trip: keep in mind all our previous tips for road trips with a baby. If your baby is fussy in the car, at least it’s only for two or three days!
- Weekend getaways get you away for the weekend with your baby, but make TONS of memories as a family trip!
- Taking weekend getaways to visit friends or family, especially those who have “baby stuff” (cribs, bassinets, high chairs, baby toys) at home, can make the trip much simpler.
