There isn’t just one type of trip to take with a baby. Although it’s easy to visualize just “one experience” of traveling as a family with a little one, the options are boundless.

For us, we tend to pick trips that align with our geographic location (road trips) and general comfort and risk (international destinations). We started with day trips: what would it be like being away for an entire day with our baby, on the road?

With our home base close-ish to New York’s Catskill Mountains, as well as to New England, we chose to then do overnight trips of 1-3 days in those regions, for our first travels with our baby. Then we “graduated” to longer 4-or-5 day international trips (still close by, like Canada!) when we felt more comfortable.

At long last, we became baby travel experts, with 1- and 2-week trips to international countries in Latin America. We had amazing experiences with our baby, then 12+ months old.

Here are all of the potential trip ideas that we’ve considered: any of them might work for you. Dive into each type of trip to learn more about each type of trip, to start your travel-planning journey with your infant.
